ABOUT US

The Pop Culture Preservation Society is a podcast dedicated to preserving and elevating the unsung pop culture nuggets of the classic Gen X childhood. Were you there when Marcia broke her nose? Tiger Beat delivered the news? And John Travolta was stuck in that plastic bubble? Then this is the podcast for you!

Join enthusiastic fangirls Carolyn, Kristin and Michelle — die-hard members of the Big Wheel Generation — as we discuss and dissect the crushes, clothes, books, movies, songs, tv and toys that shaped our youth. We’ll also chat about the role nostalgia plays in our lives and how recalling these positive memories increases our sense of connectedness and well-being. And really, isn’t that something we could all use a little more of right now?

We hope you’ll join us as we wrap ourselves in the comfort of many of the pop culture moments that defined us when we were younger … and still bring us joy all these years later.

Nanu nanu, keep on truckin', and may the force be with you all!

  • Carolyn Cochrane

Carolyn Cochrane is the creator of Jotted-Lines, a notecard company preserving and celebrating the nostalgic art of the handwritten word. Her love of Judy Blume, V.C. Andrews, and Nancy Drew led her to a career as a middle school English teacher, where she taught proper letter form by helping her students write fan letters. A longtime believer in the power of words, Carolyn once single handedly tried to save The Waltons from cancellation via impassioned, handwritten letters to CBS.

  • Kristin Nilsen

Kristin Nilsen, our Pro Crushologist, is a children's author and erstwhile librarian with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things 70s and 80s (and a seventh grader living inside her head); it was only a matter of time before she made her favorite teen idols a legit side hustle. She is the collector and curator of stories at My Celebrity Crush Story, a social media project sharing stories of awkward, preteen passion for the heartthrobs of yore. She once fantasized about being married to Andy Gibb and walking around their shared apartment in Malibu.

  • Michelle Newman

Michelle Newman is a former blogger (You’re My Favorite Today) and a current sporadic freelance writer for various online sites. An avid TV fan, Michelle also spent over two years writing TV recaps for Entertainment Weekly, a job that she was sure would help her become Lauren Graham’s BFF. It did not.

As a lifelong overly enthusiastic fangirl who has always lived her life out loud (often too loud), Michelle can’t believe how lucky she is to have the PCPS where she can unapologetically be both.
